1. Run, Speed-walk, cycle, or jog! Let’s face it, last I checked there isn’t a membership fee
to go outside and maximize running the way nature intended it to be, FREE. Enjoy this crisp,
fresh, clean, and a little cold air to maximize your workouts. Remember the rule of 20 degrees:
dress 20 degrees warmer than the temperature when exercising outdoors. Wear breathable
moisture wicking clothing and keep your head and hands covered.

2. Shop Rite, not Path Mark: What I mean here is not your grocery store preference, but
your ability to shop right. Meaning, only buy what you will need, not what TV and infomercials
are telling you to buy. Look, if it only took 8 minutes to have a six pack of abdominal muscles,
then we would all be ripped like Brad Pitt. But we are smarter than that. This also applies to
catch phrases like “Super Duper Sale!” What good is that pair of Asics on sale if it is a size too
small? Actually, Spend More to Spend Less. What!? Spend more money? Yes. Buy the right
equipment the first time instead of having to buy cheaper inferior products multiple times. For
example, my CW-X tights. I paid 90 bucks for them over 3 years ago, and guess what, I still
wear them and they look and feel as new as the day I bought them. Always make the right
choice and don’t deviate. Just because someone is giving it away doesn’t mean you should
want it.

3. Home is where the heart is. We log mile after mile during training close to our homes and
then we go online and sign up for an event that is states and countries away. We lug the
whole family, ship a bike if needed, and spend thousands on airfare and hotels, which can be
more money spent than necessary just to do a race. So if you are on a budget this year, stay
close to home when racing. There are a lot of great races and race directors close to home.
Here are few:
Triathlon/Duathlon: Green Brook Racing & City Tri
Running: New York Road Runners
And don’t forget to stop by the store to get applications for running events and  races by our
local running clubs:
Prospect Park Track Club & Brooklyn Road Runner's Club and no one puts
out a better list of all the races going on in the 5 boroughs then the Shore Road Striders:

4. Make it count! At Work, what is your boss’ motto? “Time is money” So be super efficient
with your own time. Make every workout count! Don’t wimp out on a workout, don’t pick up
your cell phone (better yet, leave it home) when doing a speed workout. Attack each and
every workout with a priority, make it your mission to get that goal, whether it is a slow 45
minute recovery run, or an intense Zone 4 30 mile ride. Know your goals and stick to them
during the training.

5. Stay Healthy! I know, sounds too general and too broad. But think about it. Health can
create wealth. No one fires the employee with a great track record with very little sick days
called in. So, if you are a working class athlete, then stay an athlete. Don’t have an “Off
season”. The healthier you are will be less money spent on over the counter remedies, medical
co payments, days off from work, days stuck in a doctor’s office,  and days pushing off your
workouts and trainings.

6. Run For Free!!! Just a reminder, Team Life runs every Wednesday night at 7pm and every
Saturday at 7am. Call to RSVP your spot! 718-238-4935. Come out and challenge your self with
local everyday athletes.

training, racing, and shopping tips that are suitable for all types of athletes.
