The owner:
Hey, I’m Mike Kasper. I’m a Brooklyn native. I was born, raised, and continue to reside
in Brooklyn. I became interested in endurance sports shortly after high school the same
way many other people did, to lose weight! I refer to that era as the “Doritos years.” I took
up swimming, cycling, and running and in no time flat I was changed both physically
and mentally through sport. The result of my training and racing is the athlete you see
today. I fell in love with endurance sports. I have trained for and competed in a variety of
endurance events: triathlons (sprint, Olympic, Half Ironman…still working on the full)
open water swims, running races (from 5k’s to marathons), cycling races, and pizza
eating contests (2006: 2nd place 8 ½ in 12 minutes and 2007: 2nd place 9 1/2 slices in
12 minutes!) Needless to say I have done it all (almost) and I have done it in Brooklyn.
My motto is “I’m a 5k away.” My home is a 5k away from the store, Prospect Park, Coney
Island and the Shore Road Promenade. I take pride in knowing my community and
training in it for all my events.
I even started a kids triathlon inspired non-profit fitness program called “First Place
Kids” and became a USAT Level I Certified Triathlon Coach. Prior to opening the
store I worked as a fitness trainer in Bay Ridge for three years helping clients
achieve their personal fitness goals. I continue to coach and train athletes of all levels
as they aspire to complete triathlon, running, swimming and cycling events.
