Going long?

With the 2008 Chicago and NYC marathon behind us and the desire for future marathon success, we hear a bunch of different debates about the alluring shine of the marathon medal. So I open this first blog to all of you. What is your take? Do you side with the 5k and 10k runners saying that speed is a virtue and going long is not the ultimate running goal? Or do you side with the dedicated distance runner managing to maneuver life's schedule as well as they maneuver mile after mile? This great debate transcends into the realm of endurance sports making its argument in triathlon. Is an Ironman triathlete's accomplishment any different than the Olympic distance triathlete? So I leave this opening Blog discussion up for grabs.
